Networking Skill
What is it?
I bet you have had a situation in your life where you needed something, like notes from class. That’s a common thing, but you didn’t have anyone to ask for the notes. So you were kind of screwed.
Meeting new people can be stressful, but it’s totally worth it. It’s the most important, fundamental skill.
Now you might be disappointed. Why is that?
Let me give you a hint.
In life, if you know the right people, everything can be easier. For example, if you get injured, they’ll take you to the hospital, and there’s a guy you’ve been friends with for years, he’s a doctor, and you can be sure he’ll take care of you as much as he can.
This is similar with school, I built a strong relationship with a professor in high school and he helped me turn my life around. In fact, without him, I don’t even know where I would be now. All because I listened and concentrated in his classes and took advantage of his offers for self-development programs while others ignored them.
What I’m trying to tell you now is that all you need to do is connect with a few people sometimes and everything will be easier.
Just go and talk to your professor for a few minutes after class, or just greet and smile at the principal of the school because one day you might need her help. It works, every time I saw her in the hall, I greeted her and smiled at her, and now when I needed her help with this project, she was super excited to help me.
So how do you do it? It’s easy, just start talking to people more. You don’t have to be the popular boy or girl in class, just if someone seems to need help, offer it. He or she may not even need it, but just by showing an act of kindness, if you need something, he/she will help you. I’m not telling you to help people just so they will help you, no, don’t do that, but learn to enjoy meeting new people and it will help you on your path.
Your task
Tomorrow, when you go to school, greet the professors in the hall. Not like a class nerd, but like a motivated student. Just say: “Good day or hello, professor” and nod your head.
That’s all you need to make a basic connection with the professor.
Next, you want to help people. Do it mostly for yourself. If you see someone in trouble, help them.
And last thing, if you’re waiting somewhere and someone is waiting with you, talk to him/her. The waiting time will go by faster and you can make a connection that you’ll build on for a lifetime.
That’s all for this section, thank you for learning from StudyUnite.
